By any measure, Wan-Yi Sweeting is an extraordinary young woman. She came to Australia aged 11, to board at a large Perth girls' school. At 13, she was selected for the WA Tennis Academy, which meant a hectic international touring schedule, and she chose to continue her schooling with SIDE.
Despite many hurdles with communication and connectivity, and combining a promising tennis career with the rigours of study, Wan-Yi didn't just do well at school - she "aced" it. At SIDE's annual graduation in December, Wan-Yi was named SIDE's 2012 Academic Dux.
In a video address from Hong Kong, Wan-Yi told the graduation audience that she had been awarded a scholarship to prestigious Boston College. There she will continue to seek excellence in her academic and tennis careers.
The whole SIDE community wishes Wan-Yi the very best for her future. She serves as a fine example of how distance education with SIDE meets the needs of our very special students.
