SIDE provides courses for students whose school cannot provide an appropriate course.
This would include situations such as a student transferring schools or the transfer of a teacher. It may also be the case where an individual’s needs cannot be catered for within a school timetable or within teacher expertise. SIDE Principal approval must be given under these circumstances.
Enrolment is subject to:
- The capacity of SIDE to deliver the course.
- The base school determining the level of access to SIDE that is appropriate for the school.
- Minister for Education or Director General direction.
All schools enrolling students at SIDE agree to the conditions outlined in the Service Provision to Schools document. Schools are expected to appoint a to assist students to manage their learning program.
Where students have Special Circumstances and needs, please contact the SIDE Psychologists directly on 9311 1400 to discuss the appropriateness of SIDE services and eligibility requirements for the Referral Program.

Participation arrangements under section 24 of the Education Act 1999 enable students to be provided educational programs from SIDE as a service provider to the school. Schools are charged depending on their category.
All government school enrolments will occur online via the Department of Education Portal SIDE Online Enrolment Portal (SOEP) application. It is a very simple process and instructions on its use have been posted to all government schools and are available below.
WA Public Schools using SIS enrol students through the SIDE Online Enrolment Portal(SOEP)
Schools must re-enrol students for each school year. These Instructions will assist schools to enrol students via the DOE Portal.
Schools should direct students to SIDE booklist requirements. These SOEP Instructions for Partner Schools Primary Languages will assist schools to enrol primary languages students via the DOE Portal.
WA Public Schools using MAZE
Contact the appropriate Student Coordinator for your geographical region.
Schools must re-register for each school year. Students must be re-enrolled for each school year.
The School Principal or delegate registers the school by completing the online school registration form. Once approved by SIDE the school may enrol students. non-government
The School Principal or delegate ensures the parent of each student enrolled is aware of SIDE enrolment and accepts SIDE’s conditions of enrolment as outlined in the school registration form.
