Travelling

Eligibility Criteria

Travelling within Australia

The student needs to be travelling for a minimum of one school semester or 20 school weeks. The maximum enrolment is usually one year.

Documents required for enrolment:

  • Holiday itinerary and/or
  • Parent/care-giver work contract or
  • Evidence that may be approved by the SIDE Principal

Temporarily living overseas

The student needs to be travelling for a minimum enrolment period of one school semester or 20 school weeks. The maximum enrolment period is usually two years.

Students are eligible to apply for enrolment if they do not have access to:

  • Suitable secondary schooling and/or
  • An English speaking school.

Documents required for enrolment:

  • Travel documents (airline tickets/itinerary) and/or
  • Signed parent/care-giver work contract with place and time period of employment or
  • Evidence that may be approved by the SIDE Principal

Other Documentation Required

Parents/caregivers enrolling travelling students will be asked for supporting documentation during enrolment. SIDE requires:

  • A digital copy of the student's birth certificate or passport
  • The student's Visa sub-class with evidence (if applicable)
  • Proof of Western Australian address, e.g. driver's licence, utility account
  • The student's immunisation record
  • Previous two year's school reports and NAPLAN results (if available)
  • Documentation of any court orders and/or access restrictions (if applicable)
  • Documented Plans (if applicable)

Conditions of Enrolment

For enrolment to be accepted, parents/caregivers must sign their agreement to the general conditions stated in the online Enrolment Declaration (initial enrolment application). In addtion, parents/caregivers enrolling travelling students unsterstand:

  • Students are expected to return to a local Western Australian school if they no longer meet eligibility
  • The SIDE school year is in line with the WA Department of Education calendar
  • Teachers are available within standard WA school day hours (generally 8:00am to 3:00pm AWST)
  • Students are expected to attend live online Saba lessons or negotiate with their teacher to watch recorded lessons
  • Students temporarily returning to Perth during the period of their enrolment must notify SIDE and arrange a visit
