The Languages Department offers Italian, French, Indonesian and Japanese to lower secondary students.
The lower secondary Languages programme is currently delivered by SIDE to students at various schools and locations throughout Western Australia including school-based, home-based and travelling students.
To learn a language effectively students need at least two hours a week on the school timetable and should aim to complete one SIDE module in a school term. Enrolment in a SIDE Languages course will require this time commitment. The modules cover a variety of topics and are sequenced in order of difficulty. The first module of each Language assumes no prior knowledge.
Much time and research goes into developing our programmes to ensure that they are engaging for students and encompass the principles of the Curriculum Framework. The learning programs are developed around a theme or a topic and are constantly under re-development based on student and staff feedback.
Members of the Langauages staff are involved nationally with the development of the Australian Curriculum.
Details of individual modules can be found in the Lower Secondary Choices handbook.
