SIDE is Western Australia's leading K-12 distance education provider. Thousands of students across Western Australia and the wider world undertake their education with specialist teachers based in Leederville, an inner suburb of Perth. Founded in 1918, the school has become a cutting-edge "eschool".
SIDE is an exciting place to be in 2012. Take a walk around the corridors of our Leederville campus and you will find visiting students working with their teachers, many with laptops connected to our wireless network. Peek into a delivery suite and you'll see a teacher wearing a headset explaining something to a class thousands of kilometres away with Centra, our web conferencing platform.
You won't have to look far to find teachers planning and building a learning program in Moodle, our 24/7 virtual classroom. Every class has its own special area, where they engage in forums, chat rooms, learning activities and assessments. In many cases, a printed book is unnecessary - texts are electronic, and accessible through the Moodle classroom. At any given time day or night, dozens - and sometimes hundreds - of students are online, learning in the 21st Century way.
Wander a bit more around the school and there's a good chance you'll meet students staying at SIDE's on-site accommodation village. We love to see the many students from far-flung places enjoying a taste of life in the city.
Teachers at SIDE pride themselves on delivering a modern, rounded education using the best possible tools. We're on a journey through the 21st Century, and we invite you to join us.
